Make an Entrance

The Flame Tree Estate and Hotel is an art deco plantation manor house built on land gifted by Ratwatte Adigar, the Chief Minister to the last King of Kandy, and strategically situated overlooking the Galagedera Pass, the gateway to the Kandyan kingdom.

Be at Peace

It was restored and opened as a boutique hotel in 2019, described as “a little slice of heaven and a big dose of serenity;” and has since become one of the island’s Top Ten 5-star hotels, renowned for its mix of peace, personal service, and luxury.

Wild Things

The estate’s working plantations have been replanted with spices, coconuts, teak, and endangered trees and are home to scores of bird species, civets, fishing cats, deer, toque macaque monkeys, giant and palm squirrels, wild boar, and the grey mongoose

All in Sight

It is situated a little to the northwest of Kandy, close to such spectacular sights as Sigiriya and Dambulla; the ancient cave temple of Gunadaha Rajamaha; The Temple Of The Tooth and the Royal Palace in Kandy; Peradeniya’s Royal Botanical Gardens; tea plantations; the forgotten Medieval masterpieces temples of Lankatilaka Vihara, Gadaladenyia Vihara and Embekka Devalaya; Pinnewala Elephant Orphanage; trekking and bird watching.

Open Secrets

The hotel is also the home of The Ceylon Press, a digital publishing initiative set up to tell the story of Sri Lanka.

Kick Back

But most of all, it is a place to rest and recover in, whilst the busy world rushes by beyond its protective jungle borders.
